Dear Friends of Christian Science who wish to serve the Spanish-speaking public. You are all over the country – and south of the border, as well!

Report of January 28, 2006 Amamos meeting

The third meeting of the Amamos group was held on Saturday morning, January 28, 2006, at the Christian Science Society in San Juan Capistrano. There were about fifteen in attendance, representing areas as far as Ventura to the north, and Chula Vista to the south.

We had several lively discussions regarding the following topics:

El Heraldo on radio in Southern California. We discussed the efforts of Fullerton Church to create an Heraldo Committee of branch church reps and other interested parties. They will meet Sunday, March 12 to consider the possibility of airing El Heraldo each week. (If you’d like to come to the meeting and need further details please contact Peggy Lindahl.)

Spanish church services/Bible lesson study. We discussed various aspects and issues involved with the major commitment of holding regular Spanish services in addition to English services. There was further discussion after the meeting, and interested persons at the SJC Society were prompted to meet informally after church the following Sunday and read the Bible lesson aloud in Spanish. The consensus was that Bible lesson study may be more acceptable to the Spanish community. A branch church (or several in an area) can start informal groups on their own which can convene at any time during the week in the Reading Room or Sunday School. They can even start with members/guests to get them used to strengthening their Spanish use, before opening and advertising the sessions to their community.
